CONTINENT FIELD GUIDE / CHERNARUS CALENDAR

DayZ Chernarus Seasons and Dynamic Weather

Chernarus does not remain trapped in one month. A complete year passes every twenty four real days, carrying the landscape from deep winter through spring growth, summer abundance and the decline of autumn. The calendar changes far more than the colour of the sky. Temperature, precipitation, snow cover, daylight, forage and additional animal territories all follow the active month.

01

A year that keeps moving

Every two real days the Chernarus calendar advances to the next month. After December it returns to January, which makes one complete server year twenty four real days long. The current month is restored whenever the server starts, so a restart does not interrupt or reset the cycle.

DayZ uses the active date for its natural sun cycle. Summer brings the longer daylight expected from that time of year, while winter reaches darkness sooner. The passage of time therefore changes how much useful light is available for travel, building and returning home after a supply run.

Each segment represents two real days

CHERNARUS ONLY

This accelerated seasonal calendar belongs to the Continent Chernarus server. Nasdara does not currently use this seasonal system.

02

Weather belongs to the month and the hour

The weather is selected from a large collection of states written for the active month and the current part of the day. Dawn, morning, afternoon and night each have suitable possibilities. A January dawn is not selected from the same conditions as a July afternoon, and an autumn night is not treated as a summer evening with a different label.

Cloud cover, rain, snowfall, fog, wind and volumetric haze change together. The transitions are gradual rather than instant. Rain fades before snow begins, snow fades before rain begins, and dry periods remove both. This keeps a changing sky readable while still allowing a clear morning to become a storm later in the day.

Snow changes the landscape

December and January add visible snow cover across the higher parts of Chernarus. In February that cover retreats toward higher elevations as the end of winter approaches. Snowfall can also reach lower ground through the weather system, but the persistent white terrain is concentrated where winter remains strongest.

03

The season changes ordinary survival

Seasonal weather uses the normal DayZ survival systems. Cold air, wind and wet clothing increase the difficulty of staying warm. Rain changes the value of shelter and dry storage. Fog shortens sight lines for navigation and combat. Longer summer daylight gives more time to travel, while an early winter night can leave a survivor far from shelter with poor visibility.

The configured ambient range moves from severe winter cold to real summer heat. July is the warmest month, while January is the coldest. The result is not a single permanent clothing setup. Insulation, water, fire and exposure need to be judged against the current month and the weather that arrives during it.

01Body temperature

Cold, wind, wetness and insulation determine how quickly exposure becomes dangerous.

02Water and heat

Summer raises the value of carried water, while winter makes fire and dry clothing essential.

03Visibility

Fog, rain, snow and shorter winter light change how safely open ground can be crossed.

04Fresh starts

New survivors receive a heat pack during November, December, January and February.

04

The land does not feed survivors all year

Fruit and mushrooms follow a growing season. The first mushrooms can appear in April. Apples join them in May, pears in June and plums in July. August offers the broadest and most reliable natural food supply. September remains productive, but the condition of what is found begins to fall. October is the final month, with fewer opportunities and much poorer fruit or mushrooms.

From November through March there is no added seasonal forage. An orchard that helped during summer may offer nothing in January. Forest type also matters because different mushrooms favour different trees. A survivor who knows an oak and beech forest does not search it for exactly the same mushrooms as a pine or spruce stand.

The lines compare the average supply created by each month. They show the seasonal pattern rather than a guaranteed number of items.

05

Predator territory moves with the year

Continent adds seasonal animal territories beyond the ordinary DayZ wildlife population. Wolves remain part of the entire year, but their added territory is narrow and northern during winter. It grows through spring, reaches much farther across Chernarus during July, August and September, then contracts again during autumn.

Added bear territory begins in the north during March. It spreads through spring and summer, reaches its broadest distribution around the lakes and western regions in late summer and autumn, then withdraws after November. This does not mean that every marked area always contains an animal. It means that the places where an additional encounter can occur change with the calendar.

Additional domestic hen areas are spread across Chernarus during most of the year. They are active in January and from March through November, but are not added during February or December. These smaller encounters follow the calendar as well, even though the visual below focuses on the more significant movement of wolves and bears.

The wolf points below group nearby event zones into representative pack regions. They are not live animals. Their movement makes the monthly expansion and retreat easier to read without placing every possible encounter coordinate on top of the map.

06

Chernarus through the full year

JAN / FEB

Winter holds the north

Severe cold, frequent snow and little natural food make exposure the immediate concern. Added wolf territory is concentrated in northern Chernarus. Persistent snow cover remains on elevated ground, although it begins to recede during February.

MAR / APR

The thaw begins unevenly

March can mix light snow, rain and heavy fog. Added bears return to northern territory. April becomes milder and wetter, and the first seasonal mushrooms begin to appear.

MAY / JUN

Food returns to the landscape

Apples arrive in May, with pears following in June. Temperatures rise quickly, daylight becomes more useful and the added territory of wolves and bears begins to spread farther from the winter north.

JUL / AUG

Warmth does not mean safety

Fruit and mushrooms become widely available, reaching their best supply in August. Long days and warm air make travel easier, but summer rain can be heavy and added predator territories reach far across the map.

SEP / OCT

Abundance starts to decay

Natural food is still present, but its condition falls through September and becomes poor during October. Fog returns more often while bear and wolf territories remain broad.

NOV / DEC

Winter closes the cycle

Seasonal forage disappears. November can move between rain and snow as predator territories contract. December restores persistent winter snow, deep cold and the northern white wolf pattern.

Plan around the month, not a permanent meta

A route that works in August may be a poor choice in January. A forest that offered food and few predators in spring can become a much more active wolf area during late summer. Winter clothing can become an unnecessary burden in July, while summer equipment leaves little margin once the calendar returns to December.

The season does not replace normal DayZ decision making. It changes the conditions around those decisions. Players still choose when to travel, what to carry and where to build, but the best answer is allowed to change several times within a real month. The improved DayZ zombie AI adds another changing threat, while the server directory shows which world is currently active.

Common questions

How long is one year on the Chernarus server?

One complete year lasts twenty four real days. Every server month lasts two real days.

Do the seasons also run on Nasdara?

No. The seasonal calendar described on this page currently applies only to the Continent Chernarus server.

Does winter change more than the weather?

Yes. Winter changes ambient temperature, daylight, seasonal forage, added animal territories and persistent snow cover on elevated terrain. Fresh survivors also receive a heat pack during the coldest part of the year.

Do animals physically migrate across the whole map?

The added encounter territories change with the month. This creates seasonal movement in where encounters can happen, but it does not force one persistent animal to walk from a winter zone into a summer zone.

Can fruit and mushrooms appear during winter?

The additional Continent forage system has no active fruit or mushroom rules from November through March. Its growing season runs from April through October.
