CONTINENT FIELD GUIDE / SQUAD MAP
DayZ Squad Map for Vanilla Servers
The Continent Squad Map gives a group one shared view outside the game. It shows where squad members are, which direction they are moving, how far away they are and whether they may need help. It works in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer and does not require a DayZ client mod.
01
One map for the whole squad
Vanilla DayZ is built around uncertainty. Continent keeps that foundation, but gives organised squads a practical way to coordinate without adding an in game group modification. The map does not replace communication or awareness. It gives everyone the same reference when a town, road or forest is difficult to describe over voice chat.
Open the map in a browser while playing, or check it from another device. A squad can decide where to meet, see who has fallen behind, follow a moving member and leave information for the next session. Players who are not inside the same authorised squad cannot use the map to watch each other.
The system runs through the website. Joining a Continent server still requires no client download, custom launcher or map package. The current worlds, player counts and connection details are listed on the Continent DayZ servers page.
02
Why Steam login is required
The website must know that the person opening the map is the same player who joins the DayZ server. Steam provides that connection. Your Steam identity allows Continent to match your website session with your character and with the squads that have accepted you.
This prevents someone from opening the page under an unrelated name and viewing another squad. It also means that a squad owner can recognise join requests, manage members and keep access attached to the correct player even when an in game character dies and starts a new life.
What Steam login does not mean
Continent does not ask you to type your Steam password into the squad map. Authentication takes place through Steam, then the website receives the identity needed to recognise your account. Signing in does not make your position public and does not give every website visitor access to the live map.
03
How to start using the map
The first setup takes only a few steps. The selected server matters because squads and their members are handled separately on every Continent server.
- 01Sign in through Steam
Use the Steam login button so the website can recognise the same account that plays on the server.
- 02Select the correct server
Choose the Continent server where the squad will play. Squad creation limits apply separately to each server.
- 03Create or find a squad
Create a squad with a clear name, or browse the squad list and send a request to the group you want to join.
- 04Approve the members
The squad owner reviews requests. Accepted members gain access to that squad and its map information.
- 05Select the active squad
If you belong to more than one squad, choose which one you want to view. The roster, players and markers change with that selection.
04
What the live squad map shows
Online members appear at their current position with their name and facing direction. The roster also shows distance and four survival indicators in the same order used throughout the system: hydration, energy, blood and health. Their colours change as the value becomes more serious, so a problem can be noticed without filling the map with numbers.
Select an online member to move the map to that player and follow their movement. This is useful when guiding someone through unfamiliar terrain, regrouping after a fight or watching several players approach the same objective. An offline member can remain visible at the last known position, shown more faintly so old information is not confused with live movement.
Useful during ordinary play
- See which member is closest to a meeting point
- Follow a moving player without repeatedly dragging the map
- Recognise a member whose health or blood is becoming dangerous
- Return to the last known position of an offline teammate
- Keep the same squad view open on a second screen or phone
- Switch between squads without mixing their information
05
Markers turn a position into a plan
A coordinate is useful only while everyone remembers what it means. Markers give that position a label and a recognisable symbol. Use them for a meeting place, vehicle, camp, supply location, danger area or any other point the squad needs to remember.
A marker can be shared with the squad or kept private. Every player controls the visibility of the markers they created. The marker colour can also be changed, allowing one squad to develop a clear visual language for objectives, warnings and temporary notes.
06
Squad ownership and limits
Every player can create up to two squads on each Continent server. The limit is separate for every server, so a group on Chernarus does not consume a squad place on another server. You can also join squads created by other players and select the one you want to view.
A squad contains four players by default, including the owner. Groups that regularly play with more people can request a larger member limit through the Continent Discord. The increase is handled for that owner, so an approved larger group remains manageable through the same interface.
What the owner can manage
The owner reviews pending requests, accepts new members, removes players who no longer belong to the group and can block a player from requesting access again. This keeps membership deliberate instead of turning the map into an open player tracker.

Common questions
Do I need to install a mod?
No. The squad map works in a normal browser and the DayZ server remains accessible without a client mod.
Can everyone see my position?
No. Live player information is limited by squad membership and the squad that is currently selected.
What happens when a member goes offline?
The player is marked as offline and can remain visible at the last known position with a faded marker.
Can I use the map on a phone?
Yes. The map is designed to work in a browser on phones, tablets and computers.
How do I get more than four squad places?
Request a larger member limit through the Continent Discord. Include the Steam account of the squad owner and the server where the squad is used.
How many squads can I create?
Each player can create two squads on every Continent server.
Open the map before the squad starts moving
Sign in through Steam, choose the server and create a squad or request access to an existing one.
